We got to camp around 2:30 and set up our tent and canopy. We went for a walk in the woods to help Ricky set up his blind for the next day. We all decided to sleep on the air mattress. Chase and I shared a sleeping bag. It got so cold the first night we were there. I think it got down to 29 degrees! Ricky and I were freezing and kept waking up but I kept checking to see how Chase was and he was like a little furnace all night. It didn't bother him at all. Ricky and I kept trying to get closer and closer to him all night. All the other nights there were fine with the temperature, it was just that first one. Brr! This one picture is funny of Chase stuffing his face with a marshmallow:
Thursday was a leisurely day. We went for a drive in the evening and stopped at the Cheney's house to say "hi" and let them know we were there. They invited us to come and have dinner with them at their son's house. That was fun. We were so appreciative to them for letting us camp and hunt on their land all week. We are always impressed by their Christian generosity with all that they have.
Friday Ricky shot a turkey! Yeah! He had come in around 9:00 to have breakfast. He was over at the stove cooking sausage and eggs for himself and I was sitting by the fire reading and thought I was hearing turkeys gobbling and cutting and stuff so I went and told him. He went to where I was and crow called and immediately heard a gobble so he got all his gear back on and ran into the woods and over the hills and shot the turkey! It was funny how it happened. It was a good sized bird too with a 9 inch beard. Chase was very interested in the turkey and wasn't scared of it at all.
We weren't sure what to do with the turkey so we decided to give it to Elvin and Doris (our Mennonite friend's with 10 kids and a farm). We took it over there and visited with them a little and they invited us to dinner. So we went back to the camp and started a fire to heat the water for a shower. It took 2 and 1/2 hours to heat the water but the shower felt nice once we got one. We then went to Elvin and Doris' for dinner and she had actually cleaned and cooked the turkey for us to eat! Talk about fresh! It was good. I am always amazed at how quick food disappears at their table. She had a whole sheet cake for dessert and it was all eaten and the pan licked clean! I thought it was interesting that Doris said she has been having trouble potty training her 9th little one. He actually peed his pants twice while we were there. I asked her if she thought it was easier to potty train girls than boy and she said, no, they are all different. Isn't that interesting that she is having trouble with her 9th baby! You think she would have it down. I guess parenting is always a learning experience. Christy, I wish you could meet them, you would find their lifestyle very interesting. They are truly self-sufficiant. They have cows and pigs and chickens for their food and grow their own animal feed and never have to go to a store! I love watching their family interact with each other. The older kids help with the younger ones and don't even need to be asked, they just do it!
Saturday we went to a big farmer's market and had lunch and walked around for a while. I had a lot of Braxton Hicks after that and Ricky said it would be funny if we had the baby at Soldier's and Sailor's hospital in Penn Yan and wouldn't tell anybody until we showed up at home with a little baby. I didn't think that would be funny :). Saturday night it stormed all night and we woke up with a lot of water in our tent. I was not very happy Sunday morning so I went out to breakfast with Chase while Ricky hunted and sat inside and had good coffee for a while until I was able to change my attitude. Then I came back and started moving stuff around to let it dry out.
Sunday after lunch we drove up to Rochester and went to the Seneca Park Zoo. Chase had a blast and we had a really fun time showing him everything. It was a small zoo but they had elephants and monkeys and tigers and such. We also drove by lake Ontario so Ricky could see it. He had never seen one of the great lakes even though he had worked up that way many times!
We decided to drive home a day earlier than planned and got home yesterday around 4:00 in the afternoon. We stopped for lunch at a little picnic area and made ourselves sandwiches. Check out our view!
It was nice to get home to our little luxuries, like, a bed, climate control and hot showers whenever you want them. Chase was very excited to see his sandbox and played in it all evening and cried when it was time to go inside and take a bath.

I'm glad you guys had fun! We want to try to take the kiddos camping sometime- Alex loves to sleep in a tent- it should be interesting when it's not in our yard. And with a baby too. I dont know how you did it- being so pregnant and all. But good for you! Hold that baby in just a little longer- you're probably ready- but you'll be glad when it's full term :) And you look super cute with your belly by the way- did you drop already or have you been carrying that low the whole time?
Love ya!
