Goings On

We spent most of the week trying to catch up from being away on vacation. there was a ton of laundry to do and gobs of stuff to put away and organize and clean. Ricky went back to work on Wednesday. I went on a bike ride with the kids in the trailer in the morning and decided to stop in at our Mennonite neighbors to inquire about getting the chickens butchered. She said they could do it that day. I had the 6 older chickens butchered to make room for the new chicks which are growing very fast.
The guy came and picked up the chickens and took them back to his house, they butchered them and cleaned them and she brought them back in a couple hours and they only charged me $2 a bird! Can you believe that! Well remember we had that one chicken that was twice the size of the other ones? All the other ones just slipped right into freezer bags but that chicken seriously looked like a turkey. It was huge! I wasn't exactly sure what to do with it so I just roasted it like a turkey for a couple hours and then cut all the meat off the bone. It was actually really yummy too. It weighed 12 pounds!
I had also wanted to run some errands on Wednesday but I went to start my car and it was dead. When Ricky came home he jumped it and we let it run for a while to charge. So Thursday morning I hopped in the car ready to run my errands and be productive and the car was dead again! So I had to take Ricky's truck, I hate driving his truck, it's too big. Well Ricky finally fixed my car Friday evening (it needed a new battery) and I let the kids play in it while he was working on it. Don't worry I had the key in my pocket and it wasn't on and it wasn't hot, they were so funny though.
Joanna has been in a really good mood the last several days. I guess she's feeling better since her top teeth finally broke through. She's been making this face a lot.
She loves her baths too.
Too funny:)
Would you care for a cup of coffee?
I got two of these really cute planters at Walmart the other day. The one is for Ricky's mom for Mother's day and they were so cute that I had to have one for myself. This is the one for Ricky's mom.
Today Ricky and I were so busy working outside all day. I was so thankful that it was nice and semi-dry so we could work on the garden. I really think we have the best looking garden in town right now.
I weeded the strawberries (which weren't that bad) and then weeded back the meadow tea which I should have done a long time ago but that is a hard job, it took up most of my time today. Ricky put grass clippings around the strawberries to help keep the weeds down. I planted carrots, peppers, 8 tomato plants and 2 rows of corn. We still need to plant a row of regular potatoes, a row of sweet potatoes, watermelon and the rest of the rows of corn but I felt really good about everything that we got done today. I planted twice as many tomatoes as I did last year.
I also potted a bunch of flowers today. Here are some of them.
I got a whole flat of these cute little flowers for $9 and of course I forget what they are called. I've been spending a lot of time at the local greenhouses the last couple days. There are a plethora of them to choose from around here. I've been trying to get ideas for that one front flower bed. I think I have a good one but I need to ponder it a little more:) I keep changing my mind on that one. I think that's the news for now.

Oh, I wanted to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there and especially to my Mom who is the best in the whole world, I know I say that a lot but that's only because it's true. I love you Mom!

Hi Amy! Those are dianthus, but I don't know if I spelled it right.
Happy Mother's Day to you too! I wish I could have chicken and neighbors to butcher them. That's awesome!

Hi Amy, I was going to tell you your "unnamed" flowers were dianthus, but the previous responder told you.
It was cute seeing the kiddos "driving" your car.
Glad you had a nice Mother's Day. After the Mother/Daughter brunch on Saturday morning at church, I was invited to Nathan & Krista. They, Erik & Deb, and Krista's brother and wife feted Krista's parents, Sam& Julie, and me. Then on Mother's Day, Wendell & Rita took me to Moselem Springs for dinner. We couldn't get our reservations until 3:45 but that was OK. I don't usually eat a lot at noon any way. Wendell and I "jammed" awhile before we went to eat. Grandma

I came to your blog via 'With a Greatful Heart...' I love that coffee cup planter. I had seen those at Walmart last year, but didn't get one. If I see it again, it's going home with me! I got a kick out of your kids playing in the car. Looks like they loved it!
