New Stuff

So we finally got our new shed/barn put up.  They came last Thursday around 10 in the morning and starting working on building it.  It's at the very back of our property.
and yes, I was taking pictures through the window while inside the house... I didn't want them to think some crazy lady was taking a bunch of pictures of them.  So instead I was a crazy lady taking pictures of them where they couldn't see me :P  It went up really fast though.  They where done around 3 in the afternoon.
Ricky mulched around it and I picked out the plants that he planted on Saturday.... and Voila!
Isn't it so cute?!
The little bushes are Dwarf English Boxwoods and the flowers are called Gazinias.
Ricky had also planted this little maple tree that had sprouted in a neglected flower bed and has been lovingly watering it faithfully :P
Saturday when I went to get the flowers and shrubbery I also picked up a bushel of apples to make applesauce with.  I got ginger golds so I didn't have to add any sugar to the sauce.
the kids were excited about them :P
I made 12 one and a half pint containers of sauce on Monday.  It took pretty much all day.  I still want to get another bushel too and also do tomatoes... when I can find the time.  Tonight I made the most delicious apple dumplings for dinner with the leftover apples, mmmm!
My parents came up for a little visit on Sunday afternoon.  It was so nice to see them again.  It had felt like a long time since then had been away for a 2 week vacation in Marvelous Maine (jealous!).  The kids are always so excited to see them though.  And Katy was actually friendly this time too!
We walked over to see Ricky's parents' new house and visit with them a little too.
We had BBQ chicken pizza from the town restaurant and then sat outside a little and chatted.
I had forgotten to say that when Ricky's parents moved they gave us their dining room hutch that they didn't need anymore.  I am so happy to have it.  It's a beautiful piece of furniture and there's so much storage space in it!  Ricky's grandfather (now passed) had actually built it for them as a wedding present!
Chase and Joanna each have their own drawer to put whatever they like in and then the other drawer holds silverware.
We've been getting a lot of rain the last couple of days and I'm hoping to be able to clean up my flower beds sometime this week or weekend.
Also, we "officially" started school today with Chase.  It went pretty well.  Tomorrow we go for our first Classical Conversations meeting, so then we'll really be under way.  More on that later.

Those apple dumplings look so good! Especially in that nice clean oven. ;) I might have to break my no carb diet and make some myself.
The shed looks great. I love the landscaping too. Nice job!

We had some of those boxwoods at our house in Texas. They will withstand anything! Your hutch is beautiful!

Oh and Amy I probably should mention that the dwarf english boxwoods are sensitive to cold and wind so you might want to wrap them in burlap at least their first winter or you may lose them. We lost a few around our patio on the north facing side. I am not sure which side your shed faces but just make sure they are protected from the winter wind and they should be o.k. If you do lose them we can get you a good deal on some more though. :)

Your hutch is beautiful. I am a "pushover" for family antiques. They connect you to the past. If you treasure it like I do my inherited pieces, you will always honor it!
