Weekly Happenings

I got my cabbage patch hat all finished and listed in my shop.  Getting pictures of Katy in it was a chore, she was tired and cranky but I did end up getting 5 good ones that I could use!
All of the puppies went to their new homes on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I usually make them all sweaters to go home in but it's been so hot that I decided to just make them all bow "collars" instead.
The last people to get their puppy brought a whole bag of beanie baby animals for the kids!  It was so nice of them and did a pretty good job of distracting them from the fact that they don't have any more puppies to play with!
We were at the library a couple times again last week.  Tuesday for the regular story time and then Wednesday morning for a program about king Tut.  I didn't realize it was actually an hour long skit that they were having. The kids loved it though.  It was only these two guys and they played several different characters each and were really funny.
The kids loved it!
After that we waited around a little longer until the mystery guest lunch program at noon.  We had packed out lunches and were able to eat them in the library while we asked questions of our mystery guest, who had been a local artist.
Thursday was Joanna's birthday, she's now five!!  I had decided that I would do a special day out with just her and arranged babysitting with Ricky's mom for the other two.  She was SO excited!
I decided to take her back to French Creek and go on a boat ride with her around the lake.  We got there at 9:30 but the boat rental place didn't open until 10 so we waited on the dock for half an hour until the opened.  It's such a pretty park.
The boat rental place opened up and we decided to get a double kayak, I thought that would be easier for me to maneuver around since she wouldn't be able to paddle.  I paddled around the whole lake with her for an hour and she loved it!
She wanted to try paddling and actually did pretty good, once she got the blades turned the right way.  It was nice that we were on a lake and it didn't matter which way we floated.
There were all these patches of pretty pink lily pads around the edge of the lake that we kept floating through.  Joanna wanted to touch them all.  I was wishing I had brought along my real camera so I could have gotten a good picture of them.  Lily pad flowers are so pretty!
After our Kayak ride we drove over to ToysRus to get her birthday present, she wanted an easy bake oven.  They gave her a balloon and birthday crown at ToysRus which she wore for the rest of the day.  After that we stopped for lunch at McD's and then headed home to get the other two kids.
After nap time I helped Jo use her oven for the first time.  She loves it and makes very tiny little cookies and cupcakes :P
I have no idea how I made this animated Gif, my computer just did it on it's own but it's kinda cool :)

Some flower pictures....
I love this hydrangea bush.  The blooms start out blue and then turn purple as they mature:
 Hot pink Hydrangea:

This new columbine keeps re-blooming too:
I found this tiny, white fuzzy caterpillar on my blue columbine that isn't blooming...
As does my pot-of-gold coreopsis.  I'm very surprised with how long it's been blooming this year.   I guess it has something to do with all the rain we've been getting.
Tickseed coreopsis:
The hot pink echinacea finally started blooming:
These are going to give a lot of flowers this year!
I got this "sun loving" planter at the greenhouse the other day.  It has Lantana and geraniums in it.
I love Lantana.  I always mean to plant it as my annuals but then I forget for some reason.  One of these years I will remember :P
A couple of my butterfly bushes started blooming... This bee is confused:
We're almost done with out summer reading program, just accumulating extra points at this point.  Chase is really into reading to us right now! I'm so excited that he is getting more into it!
Yesterday he read us 4.5 books!
My neighbors brought over a huge bundle of meadow tea for us the other day!  Our meadow tea patch is not taking off just yet and they have more than enough this year.  I tied it all up and hung it in the basement to dry.  Our basement smells lovely right now :)
They also brought over a huge bag of clothes for Joanna the other day.  So nice!  It almost makes up for their dog pooping in my yard the other day ;P

We've been getting so many thunderstorms lately.  I got the privilege of spotting a double rainbow the other day!  The main rainbow was so bright you could see every single color in the ROY-G-BIV spectrum!
