Hockey, hiking and colorful chickens

The last Saturday in March I took Dominic up to a hockey clinic in Reading. I got up nice and early and got him there, what I thought, was 15 minutes early. Well all the kid's were on the ice already and I was so upset that we were late! It didn't seem to phase Dominic though so I guess it was ok.
He ended up getting out there and having a good time.
I tried to be a good Aunt and watch and cheer for him.
He even got to skate with the Royals players at the end and have their group shot with them.
After the clinic was over I dropped Dominic off at his other weekly hockey practice that was a little way away from his clinic. Then I went home and a few minutes later my mom came for a visit! I don't remember when the last time was she had made it up to see us so it was such a nice treat to have her :)
It was a nice warm day so after we ate lunch we piled into our suburban and went over to the rails-to-trails for a nice hike.
There were so many people there since it was nice and a Saturday. My mom was probably a little annoyed with me because I had to stop and pet every dog we saw and talk with their owner, haha!
We walked a little past the goats and then turned around.
These are two of the dogs that we sit very often and love them like they are our own.
Katy wanted to walk them herself and pretend she wasn't with us so people thought they were her dogs and she was a grown-up 😁
Even mom got to walk a dog for a little!
On our drive home we had been talking about the accident we had when I went to see her the last month and we were all together in my little car. Then all of a sudden we were rear ended, hard! It was pretty shocking for all of us and one of the dogs even went flying into the front seat. Thankfully none of us were hurt at all though!
I was so glad we decided to take the suburban because for how hard she got us the damage didn't look that bad. If we had been in my Cruz I don't think we would have been so lucky.
Her car was not driveable but I was able to drive us all home after the police finished taking all our info. Since we had just been in an accident the month before we knew the drill!
My car is in the shop being fixed now and it looks like it will be over $5000+ when all is said and done. Obviously the accident was not my fault and her insurance company claimed 100% responsibility, thank goodness.

Anyway... here's some colorful chickens :P
We've had these silkie chickens for a couple years now and the other day I saw some colored chickens on Pinterest and thought I just HAD to try it!
I just brushed on food coloring with a toothbrush. They are very docile birds and didn't mind sitting still for me.
Of course the kid's thought it was awesome.
It's been a few weeks now and their color is fading and the kid's really want me to do it again :)
That last Saturday in March was a busy one for me! After my mom left from her visit I took Chase and Dominic back to Reading for a Royals game.
It was nice to spend the evening with my sweet boy.
That's a big pretzel!
It was a pretty good game and ended up going to overtime and then the Royals won.

I started getting some gardening done. Katy picked out this Lupine flower for her little section of my butterfly garden. We love the book "The Lupine Lady", so that's why she picked it :)
Joanna LOVES pansies and picked out a couple packs of them for her garden.
I finished raking out my butterfly garden, I decided we needed to take out the path and mulch the whole thing really well this year.

I also took the kid's for another fishing, nature study.
This time Joanna caught a bass for us to study:
Katy and I enjoyed the sunshine.
