Sunday the 13th of this month we had a family trip to the Daniel Boone Homestead. It was Charter day in PA and we were able to enter the park for free and spend about 3 hours there walking around and seeing all there was to see. It was still a pretty chilly day but we had fun anyway. These ladies were nice and toasty cooking over the open fire place in the main house.
This man was in another room of the house demonstrating the instruments that would have been played in that day. It sounded really beautiful in the old house.
I think Chase's favorite part was this horse outside the homestead. I love seeing him become more confident and outgoing as he gets older... only last year he would have been terrified of the horse but this year he ran right up to it.
we also met my sister Christy and her family there and walked around with them. It's always nice to spend time with family :)
We watched a demonstration at an old sawmill that they would have used in that day.
Starting the water for the mill... Chase really liked that part.
Katy slept pretty much the whole time in the ERGO.
And Joanna sat in her stroller the whole time :P
And Chase ran around with Naomi the whole time.
Watching the blacksmith:
another one of the buildings on the homestead:
Ricky stood and listened to these guys for a while. He said they made all their guns that they were showing off.
It was a very fun day, I'm not sure how much we learned about Daniel Boone but we had fun :)
I missed wishing everyone a happy first day of spring, I've been pretty preoccupied with puppies so completely missed that day. So, Happy Spring! This is usually the time of year where I will go on and on about how much I love spring and the weather until you all want to push me off a cliff or strangle me :P I just can't help myself.
We had some lovely days the past couple weeks and the kids and I have been out and enjoying it as much as we could.
Thursday we walked to the park and met my friend Jess and her kids there to play for a while.
[oh, Chase got a spring haircut]
Having fun on the merry-go-round:Spring is also the time for getting baby Chicks. Ricky decided he wanted to have chickens again so he took the kids and went to Tractor Supply Co. to get some.
Joanna loves them a little too much. we have to keep a close watch on her that she doesn't squeeze them.
Ricky fixed up a little spot for them out in the barn with a heating lamp and all the other necessities.
Spring is also the time to start digging in the dirt. I trimmed back my roses and transplanted a clematis vine. I'll get pictures of all my flowers starting to pop up soon.
And it was also time for spring haircuts. I took Chase and Joanna to a barber shop close by to get haircuts.
This was Joanna's very first haircut and she did a very nice job sitting still. Unfortunately he did an awful job with Chase's... doesn't he look thrilled?
Ha ha! so it was time to pull out the clippers and just shave it all off. I like it buzzed but Chase thinks he likes it longer.
He's been rubbing his head a lot since I buzzed it though so I think he likes it now :)
Here are some random family pictures:
Katy continues to grow and is such a blessing in our lives.
Spring is also a time for Puppies... Penny had her litter on Saturday but that is a whole other blog post that I'm working on. So stay tuned for that ;)

Spring snow?! Yesterday and this morning- both we have snow. I am so ready for warmer weather. I pruned my grape vines last week, my crocuses are blooming, the daffodils have big buds. I like Chase's looks better with hair- but it will grow in. Great pix.
I love your new header pic. Do you realize how wealthy you are with such a beautiful family? And I'm not prejudiced!!
Thanks Grandma! We are truly, truly blessed!
