Early Springtime activities

It seems as though spring has been slow coming this year.  We've had some pretty nice days but it's been windy a lot and that always makes it seem colder than it really is. It took me a long time and a lot of work but I got my new vegetable garden all planted finally and put some straw down to try and keep the weeds down.  It's all things that are OK in colder weather but shortly after I planted it we got snow! I was worried my plants wouldn't pull through and I'm still not sure but I pulled off all the brown leaves and they look to be doing better now.
Hopefully in a couple weeks I will expand the garden even more and put in the rest of the vegetables for the summer.  Right now there are red onions, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, beets, and yellow onions... and my lettuce and kale are still doing well in the large pots.  We had our last day of co-op a couple weeks ago and I started fundraising for our Great Strides Walk in May.  I made a ton of cookies and ended up selling them all at our last day of co-op, so we're actually a lot closer to our fundraising goal than my page says :)
Chase had taken a puplic speaking class the last semester of co-op and every week he would speak on a different subject.  The last week the could either recite a poem or pick their own topic.  Chase chose to recite a poem. I don't know if this is the kind of poem his teacher had in mind but we had a lot of fun with it, and she never said anything to me about it so it must have been ok :P

Here's Katy's version:
He also did a finale science project:
We have a couple baseball practices a week now too. They've mostly been cold and windy ones though, I'm tired of the wind!
They let Chase try pitching a little:
All of the practices are done now and we have his first game this coming week.
My crocheting has slowed down but I've managed to fit in a few projects.  I made this fun and colorful spring/summer wreath with a $3 ring from walmart, scrap yarn and some bobby pins.
And Joanna said she needed a blanket for her teddy bear sooo...
I had won a facebook contest a few weeks ago for 4 yards of free mulch and we were so excited about it!  Well we had to pay for delivery but it was still way cheaper than if we would have bought all that from the place down the road. Plus it's really good stuff!
It took a while but we finally used it all up and it was ALMOST everything that we needed.  I think I need to get a few bags for around the shed in the back and then we'll be completely finished with that springtime chore.
The Saturday before Easter we went to the town's community hall for the Firefighters buffet breakfast.  After that I spent pretty much the rest of the day in the kitchen getting things ready to go to NJ Easter dinner that evening and for Easter with Ricky's family the next day.  I think the kids wanted me to play outside with them, lol!
I made these amazingly delicious salted caramel mini cheesecakes, oh man, they tasted like heaven!
We didn't end up leaving to go down until after Katy's nap time but we had so much fun together.  look at all these princesses!
It was a beautiful evening so we were able to eat outside.
Easter Sunday we went to church in the morning and then came home to watch one of the Flyer's playoff games.  After the game was over I MADE everyone go on a walk because it was so nice outside!  The girls had to wear their Easter dresses and thankfully Batman came along just in case something were it happen!
We had dinner at Ricky's parent's house and an egg hunt for the kids after dinner. It was really nice and I ate way too much food!
This past weekend we took a short trip to our favorite state park ever, World's End!
It was a short trip this time because Ricky wanted to take Chase out for the spring youth/mentor turkey hunt day on Saturday. We left around 10am on Friday and stayed in one of their awesome rustic cabins.  This was our heat source:

I walked to the ranger station with the girls Saturday morning but it wasn't open as early as we got there.  Ricky and Chase happened to come back as we were there though and gave us a ride back to the cabin. I made them breakfast and then walked back to the ranger station with all the kids while Ricky took a nap (camping makes us tired!).  They still weren't open but I thought the kids would want to play on the playground until they did open up.  There they go...
Well the ranger station finally opened up and we got to spend another hour in there looking at all the interesting things. World's End has a really great ranger station.  After we got back to the cabin and Ricky woke up I made everyone get in the car to go see the vista before it started raining again.  It was good we went when we did too because it started raining as we were walking back to our car!
One of my most favorite views ever.  Ricky thinks it's funny that I have to go to the vista every time we are up there :P
We also walked up to the "rock garden". I had gone there with the kids a couple years ago but Ricky had never seen it and he was sufficiently awed.
Do you see the ice in the bottom of this cave?!
It rained off and on the rest of the afternoon so we sat on the porch with a good book and a good fire.  So much fun!
We got home in pretty good time this afternoon and unpacked the car while the kids picked some flowers.
