End of July, 2014... Part 1

We were at the library for one of the most fun programs we've done called Wile E. Coyote Science. Our library program director is so fun and we really like her a lot.  She knows all my kids' names by now and they really like her.  She was very excited about this program and so it made the kids excited about it as well :)  They really love anything science too so that helped too.
This part cracked me up, she had the kids climb to the very top of the ladder and drop eggs into a swimming pool to see if we could figure out a way to drop them without them breaking.
Lots of kids got a chance to try.
She eventually made a little basket for the egg to sit in with a makeshift parachute attached to it and the egg made it safely down!
Katy was called up to try and lift this cinder block... obviously she couldn't do it.
until it was put on a lever that is...
We then made some catapults out of Popsicle sticks and plastic spoons.
The third weekend of July is when we usually have our town "fair". We usually spend a lot of time there from Thursday to Sunday and have way too much fun and fair food :P  I took the kids to this juggling show that was really fun and funny.
These guys grew up locally and went to a Christian school nearby.  They work full time jobs and then do these shows on the weekends at local events.  They're quite the comedians.
Flaming torches and plungers:
The kids and I really enjoyed that show and they even gave a salvation message at the end!
Saturday Morning we went over bright and early for the kids to run in the 1/2 mile kids fun run.
(notice the girls fancy running shoes?)
I thought maybe Katy would run it by herself this year but after she went a little ways and saw I wasn't with her she started bawling, so I had to run quick and catch up to her.  We ended up running the whole thing hand in hand then and she wasn't last this year! Chase and Joanna did really well too and even placed second in their age groups.  After the race we walked around the park some and let the kids play a little.
Later that afternoon we went back over to watch the outhouse races.  This has been an annual tradition for the last several years and this was the first time I actually got to see it in person and not just in the paper :P  It was very funny.
We also caught a magic show Saturday, which I found pretty boring but the kids were really into it. Chase got called up to help with a trick:
He had to give the guy a quarter and he was pretty concerned that he wrote on it and he wouldn't be able to spend it then.
Sunday morning  we went to community church in the park, outside.  It's kind of the unofficial end to our town fair and we enjoy going and fellow-shipping with people from our little town.
Our friends Chad and Sheila got 6 fainting goats that we had been wanting to go see for a while so we went over there the one night and looked at them.  Sheila's parents and Chad's brother also stopped in to see them, apparently everyone wanted to see these goats :P
We got two turkey poults at the end of July. Their names are Thanksgiving and Christmas... you can draw your own conclusion to their purpose in this household.   It's amazing to look at this picture now because they are so much bigger now, just 6 weeks later!
We were back at the library again for a program about Leonardo Da Vinci, art and science.
After reading a couple books and watching a couple youtube videos on the projector, the kids got to make their own Mona Lisa's
And then they constructed their own flying machines.
The weekend after our town fair is always town wide yard sales.  I actually had a bunch of stuff to get rid of this year so took my things across the street to Ricky's aunt's house bright and early Friday morning.  The kids did pretty well hanging out over there most of the morning.  It was a chilly weekend, isn't it funny to see them wearing sweatshirts in July?!
We picked up our new luxury condo... I mean tent! It's possible we may have overestimated the size that we actually needed.Go big or go home, that's what we always say :P
We had needed a new tent ever since this storm happened.  At the end of camping season last year we threw it away on our way out of the campground so we would be forced to finally get a new one.
I also got myself an early birthday present... a sewing machine!  Of course I haven't read the full instructions yet or watched the video, I'm not much of a rule follower, haha. I'm having fun coming up with things to go with my crochet items though.  And probably a week or two after I got it I was asked to make felt and fabric bean bag turtles for our church VBS group so I got lots of practice making 30 of those!
Crochet and fabric dress for Katy.  I made one for Joanna too but didn't get a picture of it.

And I was also able to get the rest of the school books that we needed.
