Chase and I took Honey to a trainer January 9th and we found it very helpful. He gave us some ideas on what to work with her on and what direction we should be heading with her training for hunting.
It wasn't a super long session but it wore her out and she slept the whole way home.Chase and I have been trying to work with her 10-15 minutes a day since then and she is progressing really well. This past Monday we took her back up to the same trainer because I was feeling "stuck" and not sure what to do next with her. It was even more fun because we introduced some live birds for her to find. He gave us lots more good advice and tips and was encouraging us about her progress she had made in the months time.
Chase had a lot of Hockey games the month of January. Usually two every weekend. I didn't get to make it to every one because I'm teaching 6th grade Sunday School at church and it was my month to teach. I enjoy when we all get to go to the games as a family though. The one rink we went to had big piles of snow outside from their zambonis and the girls had fun playing on them and pretending they were Arctic explorers.
We had a couple days of snow but they weren't enough for the kids to sled until this past week.
The dogs enjoy frisking about in the snow though.
Joanna was on a crafting tear, doing a different project every night.
We had several meetings with our "writer's club" group. My friend has some fun creative ideas to inspire writing... Here they are drawing maps to go with a story that they could write later.
I decided to be nice to Rosie and clear her her own little space.
She's a fan :P
It's funny because she was scared of that bed when I first got it for her but now she snuggles in it every night.
Last week got sooo cold! Thursday morning it was -11 here! So my Honey was in the house pretty much nonstop. She actually did pretty good with it and I love how much she likes to snuggle with me.
Lazy homeschool days...
They like to do school on the floor for some reason.
I made my mom 3 scarves that she requested from me, I liked this variegated red one:
Joanna needle felted this snowy fox, how cute is this?!
It got cold enough for long enough that we were able to go ice skating with friend at the end of January.
Towards the end of our time Joanna fell and put her hands out to stop herself from falling and ended up breaking some bones in her wrist :(
Poor thing. She is being a good sport about it but pretty bummed she has to miss out on a lot of her favorite activities for a month or two.
The horse farm next to us is going for sale this weekend so they only had a couple more lessons left and she is not able to do them. She was so sweet though and gave her lesson to Chase so he was able to try it a couple times.
We got a pretty good snow last week too and it was enough for the kids to sled this time. They played out in it for a long time. Katy made a snowman and they sledded and sledded and drank hot cocoa and sledded some more :P
Usually if the kids were outside the dogs were out with them chasing them the whole way down the hill, so that helped to wear them out when they came back inside.
Honey looking all staunch at the birds at the feeders.
Katy made herself a book bag out of an old t-shirt I had.
I made this buffalo plaid scarf and I thought it looked good on Honey too :)
Ricky found this giant icicle hanging from his pole barn.
Chase got the "hard worker" helmet from the games this past weekend and was very proud.
Our past writer's club we found out our friends got a puppy and were super excited for them.
This week has been unusually warm so far but we're not complaining! Yesterday got up in the 60's and the sun was shining, it was glorious. I let the kids walk across the road to the creek and waited on the porch with the dogs for them to come back.
